Hannah Mosman Design

Hannah co-founded Villeine with partner Charlotte Minnett after working at Rachel Antonoff together. Both Hannah and Charlotte realized their deep appreciation for functional workwear pieces, and a love for antiques and historical garments. Hannah perused old family photos and was inspired by her Oregon roots where her grandfather was a logger; and Charlotte from her Australian pinafore school uniforms. Together, their pull towards the suspender garment was undeniable.

While separated during the pandemic, Hannah and Charlotte created Villeine with a slow fashion goal in mind with attention to meticulous detail and design. All garments are made in NYC using either upcycled vintage fabric, or milled-in-USA textiles. The overall will always be integral to Villeine, with the LeRoy as a fit-conscious and luxury take on this traditional garment.

Hannah designed, patterned, fit, and sewed her own wedding dress. Using a vintage silk taffeta and cotton velvet ribbons, the design was inspired by cumulus clouds (“marshmallow clouds”), and Regency Era empire line meeting 1980s puff sleeve Bride.

“A Lot” was the theme Rachel and Hannah decided upon for Rachel Antonoff Fall 2020. Drawing inspiration from 1980s office-wear and historically “loud” details, prints, and trims, Fall 20 took shape. See jumpsuits with strong shoulders and body-skimming waists, rainbow colorblocking in a Back-to-the-Future esque puffer, exaggerated lapels and crystal buttons abound. Hannah looked to juxtapose sharper silhouettes in a viscose jacquard or drapey rayon printed twill. Tabloid-printed denim alongside a classic mariner collar polka-dot blouse show how wearable loudness can really be. Not to be forgotten are the intarsia knits, including a retro TV and a bagel with lox. It was Hannah’s modeing debut, after all, so she had to go all out.

Inspired by Depression Era glassware and its metaphoric parallels to the underestimated danger feminine fragility can contain, Rachel Antonoff Spring 20 season explores classic nipped waist blazers, and combines modern ease with quintessential fit-and-flare silhouettes. Hannah was inspired by a pastel color palette, and the use of applied pleated all-over ruffles—mimicking the fleur de lis glass motifs—picnic blanket-style gingham suiting, and translucent PU rainwear.

For the Rachel Antonoff Fall 2019 collection, Hannah was inspired by the Gilded Age in America, namely the existing puritanical American style, juxtaposed with emerging cartoon wealth. With a mix of utilitarian details such as storm flaps and quilted hunting patches in denim, leg-of-mutton sleeves, pleated-back nightgown-inspired dresses, and vegetable-embroidered pointelle knitwear, the collection navigates the dichotomy of American dress in a disappearing rural landscape.

Rachel Antonoff Spring 19 collection draws influence from delightful functionality and punchy colors of the “Vacation Dad” within all of us. The looks include everything from soft printed jersey knit bike shorts, to fine gauge spring knits, to custom color denim 70s era separates.

“Royal Bitch” was the all-encompassing term to describe the Fall 18 Rachel Antonoff aesthetic. Drawing from British royalty, wallpapery florals and expansive libraries with touches of 1960s styling, the collection inspiration took flight. Using equestrian inspired tailoring and luxe velvet cut in a double breasted relaxed fit suit, and functional shirting details on a bubblegum pink lace top; fair isle with dachshund motifs and oversized quilting on a kimono-style robe, the RA witty and playful customer encouraged design.

Spring 18 at Rachel Antonoff looks to heavenly views of suburbia for influence. The collection contains traditional delights like polka dots and white denim combined with many-way wear exaggerated neck sashes, nautical gold buttons and rainbow topstitching to create a sense of whimsy amongst classics.

Rachel Antonoff Fall 17 was rooted in nothing other than garbage. Taking a closer look at the items we throw away, and what our trash says about us. The collection also takes influence from “trashy”: the insult used to negatively describe people who may just be aesthetically out there, often with personal conviction. Ostentatious elements meet wearable, feminine pieces in items like a fuchsia silk satin in a relaxed PJ set, alpaca yarn fringe in an edge-to-edge cardigan, velour Sopranos-esque tracksuit and jumpsuit pieces, and exaggerated wide leg all-over embroidery pants.

Rachel Antonoff Spring 17 originated in visions of the American West throughout history, but specifically its memorable characters: Dolly Parton, Shania Twain, and Selena, to name a few. Ruffles, yokes, pearl snaps on a cotton poplin, and a bow-strap tiered maxi dress in ramie/linen can be found as some standout pieces Hannah designed that she hopes would be Dolly-approved.

The cap design seen here includes color, placement, and scale. The cap styles are on replenishment so Hannah was inspired by seasonal transitions - and since there were four styles allotted, the customer could buy one for each season!

She then used the same target customer and themes to design four color ways in the Nike Presto sneaker.

A spring and fall season were designed with stylized looks for each, to illustrate trends in men's knits in combination with some wovens.

Prairie Peaks is a senior thesis for Oregon State University's Annual Fashion Show.

It was inspired by the cult classic TV Show "Twin Peaks" and the connection the plaids and styling in the show have to prairie life and its rebirth in 1970s fashion; with traditional closures, pleats, wide legs and a bit of irreverence.

The line was awarded "Best Concept/Storytelling" by a panel of judges who are professionals in the apparel industry.

These collages were part of an art class project where the compositions were meant to poke fun at gender roles witnessed in 1950s advertisements.
